Improve Your Child's Hitting at Home

Picture
I remember when I was a kid I loved to play baseball.  I still love being on the field to this day, only as a coach.  But even now I still want to step into the batters box and see what I can do.

Hitting can be such a difficult thing to pick up and learn.  A great swing doesn’t just happen by itself.  It takes many hours of practice repeating the same thing over and over.

When I was in high school I got a great Christmas gift.  I had never seen anything like it.  It was called a Solo Hitter.  It made hitting practice at home a possibility.

It’s hard to hit baseball’s off a tee at home.  And I learned that live pitching was a bad idea at home from a couple of broken windows.  I tried several things, but I didn’t have a good net or tons of baseballs.  So I didn’t do much at home.

The Solo Hitter made it possible for me to regularly take tons of swings at home.

Here are a few tips when using the Solo Hitter at your house:
  1. Practice being smooth
  2. You don’t have to crush the ball
  3. Focus on different parts of swing in 10-15 cut segments (hips, back foot pivot, level swing, front arm, head down, etc.)
  4. Take breaks every few minutes (fatigue leads to bad habits)
  5. Use the camera on your phone or tablet to record and watch yourself swing
